As I type this I am in India! I'm here celebrating my 40th bday. Don't have much time to blog, but am regularly updating my Twitter account. So if you are interested in skipping with me in India click here.

Question:
anyone have stats on whether people on average can skip faster than they can run?

Speaking strictly from personal experience, I think generally speaking that people skip slower than they run. When I skip on the treadmill I set it anywhere from 4.0 - 5.0 and not much faster.

There is a study by someone named Minnetti out there that says that skipping burns more metabolic energy than running at the same speeds, I'm pretty sure. But actually sustaining running speeds while skipping is easier said than done.
